Ell’s MLB Offseason Moves & Grades Pt. 2

1B/DH Pete Alonso to Orioles 5yr/155mil

Grade: A Big consistent power bat who has proven he can stay healthy. Solidifies 1B position and gives them a middle of the order bat to account for.

OF Mike Yastrzemski to Braves 2yr/23mil

Grade: C+ Power left-handed bat who can be inconsistent at times but has baseball genes and can have some big games.

Closer Edwin Diaz to Dodgers 3yr/69mil

Grade: A The Dodgers who struggled finding answers in the bullpen get one of the best closers over the past few seasons who was a reliable Mets fan favorite.

The Phillies keep OF/DH Kyle Schwaber 5yr/150mil

Grade: A The Phillies needed to keep Schwaber who went homerun crazy last season and ended up getting him on a good deal as other teams tried to take him.

Angles trade for SS/2B Vaughn Grissom for OF/1B Isaiah Jackson (prospect) to Red Sox

Grade: Angels C+ Grissom looked like a solid young player with the Braves before a down year with the Red Sox. Red Sox: F The Red Sox give up on Grissom at only 24 with depth at the position and in return get a prospect who doesn’t rank highly.

Red Sox trade for P Johan Oviedo for OF Jhostynxon Garcia (prospect) to Pirates

Grade: Red Sox C+ Oviedo has proven that he can be a lower-level starter in the 4th or 5th spot of the rotation at only 27 he could improve. Pirates: C For a team in need of bats, Garcia nicknamed “The Password” could be a helpful piece as he did get called up late for the Red Sox.

OF Cedric Mullins to Rays 1yr deal.

Grade: C+ The Rays get one of the top defensive outfielders on a cost-efficient deal a fan favorite and veteran who should be helpful.
