Ell’s 2026 MLB Update: AL Central

Guardians

Good: The team is leading the division after a slow start despite the low payroll with a true team effort and good power. 2nd year OF Chase Delauter started the season showing big power playing well. OF Angel Martinez has been healthy and playing well in the leadoff spot. Young SS Bryan Rocchio continues to be an underrated consistent hitter. 3rd year OF Daniel Schneemann has played well. 1st year 2B Travis Bazzana 2024 #1 overall pick has improved over the season. The starting pitching has been good led by Gavin Williams and 2nd year P Parker Messick. The bullpen has been above average.

Bad: Franchise 3B Jose Ramirez has struggled early but is heating up. OF Steven Kwan hasn’t been as consistent. Young 1B Kyle Manzardo is struggling again. The team could use a consistent 1B/DH and a backend starting Pitcher.

White Sox

Good: The team is in contention for the division lead after years of being at the bottom led by the power of new addition 1B Munetaka Murakami. SS Colson Montgomery and 3B Miguel Vargas have shown good power and consistency. 1yr OF Sam Antonacci and 2nd OF Tristan Peters have played well, especially Antonacci as the leadoff hitter showing good consistency. 2nd year 2B Chase Meidroth has been a very consistent bat. Veteran OF/DH Andrew Benintendi has played well when healthy. The starting pitching has played very well led by P Davis Martin. The batting keeps the team in any game.

Bad: Young C Kyle Teel, who is a long-term piece, has been hurt and the position has struggled. Utility player and addition Luisangel Acuna has struggled so far. The team could use bullpen help.

Twins

Good: Longtime veteran OF Byron Buxton has shown good power and consistency from the leadoff spot. C Ryan Jeffers has played well showing good power. OF’s Trevor Larnach and Kody Clemens have improved after a cold start. SS Brooks Lee has played well. OF Ryan Kreidler has given the team a boost. 2B/OF Austin Martin has been a very consistent bat. The starting pitching has been good led by Bailey Ober, Joe Ryan, and Taj Bradley along with a good bullpen.

Bad: The team continues to deal with injuries. 3B Royce Lewis continues to struggle with injuries and ineffectiveness. OF Matt Wallner has struggled. The team could use upgrades at 1B, 3B, and OF. Ryan is a good trade piece, but the team needs his production.  

Tigers

Good: OF Riley Greene has led the team with good power and consistency. 1st year SS Kevin McGonigle has played well at the leadoff spot. C Dillon Dingler has shown good power and consistency. 2B Gleyber Torres has been a consistent veteran bat. 3B Colt Keith has had a rebound season. Veteran SS/OF Javier Baez has played well. The starting pitching has been good led despite the injury to Tarik Skubal led by addition Framber Valdez. The bullpen has been good also.

Bad: Injuries. 1B Spencer Torkelson cooled off after a hot start. OF Kerry Carpenter has struggled along with veterans OF Matt Vierling and 2B/OF Zach McKinstry. OF Parker Meadows has been injured. The depth has struggled. P Jack Flaherty has struggled after being re-signed. The team could use a consistent infield bat and the return of Skubal to move up a tough division. The power has been lacking.

Royals

Good: Franchise player SS Bobby Witt Jr. has played very well. 3B Maikel Garcia has played very well as a consistent bat in the leadoff spot. Veteran C/DH Salvador Perez has shown good power. 2nd year OF Jac Caglianone has shown good improvement. OF Kyle Isbel has been a consistent bat. 2nd year C Carter Jensen has played well showing good power early but has somewhat cooled off. The pitching has been good led by starting P Michael Wacha. The team has shown good power.

Bad: The team is at the bottom of the division despite playoff hopes. 1B Vinnie Pasquantino has struggled after playing for his country in the offseason. 2B Jonathan India has been injured/struggling. The depth and veteran additions haven’t produced. The team needs help at 1B, 2B and OF.
