Ell’s 2026 MLB Update: AL East

Rays (26-13)

Good: The team is currently in 1st place in the AL East after cutting salary as usual. The team is led by 3B Junior Caminero, who is becoming a star, longtime veteran 1B/DH Yandy Diaz, and 1B Jonathan Aranda. OF Chandler Simpson has played well in his 2nd season as the leadoff hitter showing off his speed with good consistency. The bats have been consistent. The starting pitching has been very good led by veteran Nick Martinez as the team always makes the pitching a strength.  

Bad: The division is tough and the team could still use an upgrade at SS and a consistent OF bat. The team could use a veteran addition/upgrade in the bullpen.  

Yankees (26-15)

Good: The team has played well led by star OF Aaron Judge and an improved season from 1B Ben Rice. OF/1B Cody Bellinger continues to be a consistent bat with power along with Utility player Amed Rosario and SS/2B Jose Caballero. OF/DH Giancarlo Stanton was playing well before injury. The starting pitching has been very good led by Max Fried who has been an Ace since joining the team and 2nd year P Cam Schlittler. The team is still waiting on Ace Gerrit Cole to get healthy.

Bad: The other bats have struggled in 2B Jazz Chisholm, OF Trent Grisham, and 3B Ryan McMahon. The team could use an upgrade at Catcher with the struggles/injuries of Austin Wells. The team might want to add a veteran bullpen/closing arm.

Blue Jays (18-22)

Good: The team has played well led by star 1B Vlad Guerrero Jr. and new addition 3B Kazuma Okamoto who has shown good power after a slow start. Previous big additions OF’s Jesus Sanchez and Daulton Varsho have played well showing good power and consistency. 2B Ernie Clement has developed into a very consistent bat along with SS/2B Andres Gimenez. 1st year C Brandon Valenzuela has played well stepping up with the injuries. Veteran OF Myles Straw has played well. Veteran OF/DH Eloy Jimenez is getting on base in limited time after years of decline. The starting pitching has played well led by veteran Ace Kevin Gausman and addition Dylan Cease. The bullpen has played well.

Bad: The team could still use another power bat in the lineup with the injuries/struggles of C Alejandro Kirk and 3B/OF Addison Barger. Veteran P Max Scherzer has struggled. The team might want to add an addition to the bullpen.   

Orioles (18-23)

Good: C Adley Rutschman has shown good improvement after a down year with good power. Big addition 1B Pete Alonso is starting to heat up after a slow start. Veteran additions OF’s Tyler Ward and Leody Taveras have produced with Taveras adding good power. 2yr 2B Jeremiah Jackson has played well showing improvement. C/DH Samuel Basallo has shown more consistency to match his power. 2nd year OF Dylan Beavers has played well. The bats keep the team in any game. The bullpen has played very well led by Yennier Cano and addition Closer Ryan Helsley.

Bad: The team continues to deal with injuries. The starting pitching has been horrible with no real help coming. Star SS Gunnar Henderson has struggled despite showing increased power. OF Tyler O’Neil has been bad along with young players OF Colton Cowser and 3B Coby Mayo. 1B/DH Ryan Mountcastle continues to struggle with injuries along with young 2B Jackson Holliday. The team just crawled out the bottom of a tough division.  

Red Sox (17-23)

Good: Addition 1B/DH Willson Contreras has played well along with OF Wilyer Abreu showing good power and consistency. OF/2B Ceddanne Rafaela has played well with good consistency and power to match his top-level defense. DH/OF Masataka Yoshida has rebounded along with C Connor Wong after down years. The bullpen has played very well led by veteran Closer Aroldis Chapman who continues to play at a Hall of Fame level despite age. The starting pitching has been above average led by additions Sonny Gray and Ranger Suarez. Young starting P Payton Tolle and Connelly Early have played well so far.

Bad: The team is at the bottom of a tough division after firing the coaching staff. The team didn’t spend as much money as promised to add bats. Addition 2B/3B Caleb Durbin has been ice cold in year 2. The team lacks power and consistent bats. OF Jarren Duran has gotten off to a slow start when the team could have traded high on him in the offseason. Young OF Roman Anthony and 2B/SS Marcelo Mayer have declined in year 2. Veteran SS Trevor Story is struggling. C Carlos Narvaez is struggling. Ace P Garrett Crochet hasn’t been as dominant after a good start. Veteran P Bryan Bello has struggled after almost getting traded for batting help. The team is in need of batting help especially power.
