Ell’s 2026 NFL Draft Grades: AFC East

Jets – A 2 top prospects, 2 good value picks, possible sleepers, picks at need positions

The Jets were the key to the draft with the 1st pick well-known, the Jets selected Edge/OLB David Bailey (Texas Tech) at #2. Bailey is an experienced high motor pass rusher with good production, but he needs to improve against the run; he should be a problem off the edge. With their second 1st round pick from the Sauce Gardner trade from the Colts, the Jets selected TE Kenyon Saddiq (Oregon) a playmaking pass catching TE who can move outside with good athleticism, but he needs to improve as a blocker and add weight/strength. The team moved back into the 1st to select WR Omar Cooper Jr. (Indiana) viewed as a mid-late 1st round talent as a clean prospect with good size, speed, and inside/outside versatility, but he needs to clean up his route running and technique.  2nd round CB D’Angelo Ponds (Indiana) is viewed a clone of HC Aaron Glenn as a tough, undersized Nickel CB with good speed, playmaking, and production, but his size has limits in the run game and against big WRs, he is viewed as the best Nickel CB in the draft. 4th round DT Darrell Jackson Jr. (Florida State) is a huge run stopper with good mobility for his size to improve as a pass rusher, but he needs to clean up his technique. QB Cade Klubnik (Clemson) was viewed a top prospect before a down year as a dual threat QB with good accuracy, but he needs to add strength/weight and improve his decision making; he has #2 QB potential. 6th round G Amez Cooper (Miami) is a big, experienced RG with good size and strength, but he needs to improve his footwork and technique; he has starter potential.  7th round S V.J. Payne (Kansas State) is a big, coverage Safety with good production and the ability to cover TEs, but he needs to improve his tackling.

Patriots – B- 1 smart trade up, 1 sleeper, good need picks

The Patriots smartly traded up a few picks to take T Caleb Lomu (Utah) in the 1st round, a strong LT with good pass blocking, size, and strength, but he needs to improve his footwork and run blocking; he has starter potential. 2nd round Edge Gabe Jacas (Illinois) is a strong athletic player with good size, athleticism, and physicality, but he needs to continue to improve as a rusher; he has potential. 3rd round TE Eli Raridon (Notre Dame) is a strong, blocking TE with potential as a pass catcher, but he needs to prove he can stay healthy. 5th round CB Karon Prunty (Wake Forest) has good size, speed, and experience, but he will be a 25yr old rookie and needs to improve his technique. 6th round T Dametrious Crownover is a huge, experienced RT with good athleticism and footwork as a former TE, but he needs to clean up his technique. LB Namdi Obiazor (TCU) is a MLB with good awareness and tackling, but he needs to continue to improve in coverage and has limited range. 7th round QB Behren Morton (Texas Tech) is a tough, experienced pocket QB who needs to improve his awareness and prove he can stay healthy. RB Jam Miller (Alabama) is a tough, dual threat back with good size, but he lacks top speed. Edge Quintayvious Hutchins (BC) is an undersized OLB with good strength, but limits to his game.

Bills – B- Smart trade downs, 1 value pick, good picks at needs positions

The Bills traded down 3 times out of the 1st round, starting in round 2 to select Edge T.J. Parker (Clemson) an athletic pass rusher viewed as a late 1st round talent with good speed, power, and production, but he needs to improve against the run. CB Davison Igbinosun (Ohio State) is a lanky, physical CB who needs to add strength and clean up his penalties. 4th round T Jude Bowry (BC) is a big Tackle with good run blocking, athleticism, and experience on both sides, but he needs to improve his pass blocking. WR Skyler Bell (U-Conn) is a productive WR with good speed and versatility, but he needs to improve his route-running. LB Kaleb Elarms-Orr (TCU) is a fast, volume tackler with good size and production, but he needs to improve his awareness and coverage. 5th round DB Jalon Kilgore (South Carolina) is a big movable piece and box Safety with good coverage to cover TE’s. DT Zane Durant (Penn State) is an undersized, pass rushing DT who needs to add strength and improve against the run. 7th round CB Toriano Pride Jr. (Missouri) is an undersized, physical CB with good speed and awareness, but he needs to improve against the run and add weight/strength. P Tommy Doman Jr. (Florida) is a big punter with good power who will compete for the starting spot. G Ar’maj Reed-Adams (Texas A&M) is a big run blocker who lacks mobility and needs to improve his pass blocking.

Dolphins – C+ Questionable 1st round pick, 3 or more sleepers, depth picks

The Dolphins shocked everyone going with T Kadyn Proctor (Alabama) in the 1st round as his value had risen after his Pro Day. Proctor is a huge Tackle with top level athleticism and mobility for his size, but he needs to improve against the pass and control his weight; he is believed to be a better Guard prospect. The Dolphins moved up with their second 1st round pick from the Broncos for WR Jaylen Waddle to select CB Chris Johnson (San Diego State) one of my sleepers. Johnson is a lanky CB with good size to play on the outside, speed, and coverage skills, but he needs to clean up his technique and add weight/strength. 2nd round LB Jacob Rodriguez (Texas Tech) is viewed as a high-level sleeper as a high-volume tackler with good strength, production, and a nose for the football, but he needs to add weight and strength; he has starting MLB potential. 3rd round WR Caleb Douglas (Texas Tech) is a big WR with good speed, but he needs to improve his consistency and prove he can get open consistently. TE Will Kacmarek (Ohio State) is a big blocking TE with top level run blocking but lacking as a receiver. WR Chris Bell (Louisville) is known as a top-level sleeper, as physical WR with good inside/outside versatility, hands, and playmaking in space, but he needs to prove he can stay healthy and improve his route running. 4th round LB Trey Moore (Texas) is an experienced, undersized LB with good speed and versatility to do a little bit of everything, but he lacks ideal size and has limits to his game. LB Kyle Louis (Pitt) is an undersized LB/S hybrid with good production, quickness, blitzing, and coverage, but he needs to add weight/strength and improve against the run. 5th round S Michael Taaffe (Texas) is an undersized movable piece with good coverage and playmaking, but he lacks top speed and needs to improve versus the run. WR Kevin Coleman Jr. (Missouri) is a tough, undersized slot WR with good hands and experience, but he needs to improve his route running and lacks top speed. TE Seydou Traore (Miss. State) is athletic pass catching TE with good production who is still raw coming from London. 6th round G D.J. Campbell (Texas) is a tough, experienced RG who should provide depth. 7th round Edge Max Llewellyn (Iowa) is a DE with good size, but he needs to add strength and improve against the run.
