Ell’s 2025 NFL Free Agency Grades NFC East

Commanders – A

Main Additions: WR Deebo Samuel (trade), LT Laremy Tunsil (trade), CB Jonathan Jones, DT Javon Kinlaw, S Will Harris, Edge Deatrich Wise Jr, DT Eddie Goldman

Main Re-signings: LB Bobby Wagner, TE Zach Ertz, QB Marcus Mariota, WR Noah Brown, WR K.J. Osborn

Main Losses: DT Jonathan Allen (cut), S Jeremy Chinn, WR Dyami Brown, WR Olamide Zaccheaus, Edge Dante Fowler Jr.

The Commanders are showing an all-in approach trading for Deebo and Tunsil giving them veteran upgrades as they had a rookie at LT and lesser WRs in Brown and Zaccheaus filling in at the #2 role. Jones is an experienced starting CB who should get playing time fitting best in the nickel. Kinlaw is a solid pass rush DT who can help replace long time veteran Allen, along with Goldman who played well last season after stepping away from the game. Wise Jr. is an experienced pass rusher who can help replace Fowler Jr. Harris is a physical movable piece who will help replace Chinn who had a solid rebound season. Re-signing Wagner was a big move as a still productive player-coach in the middle as the leader of the defense. Similar with Ertz another respected veteran and still productive player, he was re-signed. Mariota proved to be a valuable #2 QB and he was re-signed also. Re-signing Brown and Osborn gives them reliable veteran depth at WR.

Cowboys – C+

Main Additions: CB Kaiir Elam (trade), LB Kenneth Murray, DT Solomon Thomas, RB Javonte Williams, RB Miles Sanders, Edge Dante Fowler Jr.

Main Re-signings: WR Kavontae Turpin

Main Losses: Edge DeMarcus Lawrence, RB Rico Dowdle, G Zack Martin (retirement), CB Jourdan Lewis, QB Cooper Rush

The Cowboys traded for a young lanky CB in Elam who fits the system. Murray gives them a solid run stopping LB with good coverage skills in the middle. Despite the early bust label, Thomas is a solid rotational lineman who can play DE and DT. Williams and Sanders are two RB’s looking to regain form, replacing Dowdle and Elliott. Fowler Jr. is still a solid pass rusher who the team is familiar with replacing Lawrence. Turpin has been a solid returner and growing slot WR. Losing Zack Martin was big as a future Hall of Famer and leader of the line who gave them Tackle versatility also. Lewis is a good nickel CB, but the Elam addition adds depth. Rush is an experienced #2 QB they could rely on, so he will need to be replaced.

Giants – C+

Main Additions: S Jevon Holland, CB Paulson Adebo, QB Jameis Winston, QB Russell Wilson

Main Re-signings: WR Darius Slayton, QB Tommy DeVito,

Main Losses: S Jason Pinnock, CB Adoree’ Jackson

The Giants signed the top Safety on the market in Holland who can play either Safety spot with a good balance of coverage and tackling, replacing Pinnock. Adebo is a lanky #2 CB with good playmaking coming off an injury, replacing Jackson. The Giants also signed Tackle depth not mentioned above. They re-signed veteran WR Slayton giving them a good inside/outside playmaker. Devito gives them a #3 QB they trust and a fan favorite. The late signing of Russell Wilson gives them a veteran QB who can try to save the front office. Winston gives them a veteran #2 to go to.

Eagles – C

Main Additions: RB A.J. Dillion, G Kenyon Green (trade), QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson (trade), CB Adoree’ Jackson, Edge Josh Uche

Main Re-signings: LB Zach Baun

Main Losses: Edge Josh Sweat, DT Milton Williams, CB Darius Slay (cut), S C.J. Gardner-Johnson (trade), CB James Bradberry, RB Kenneth Gainwell, LB Oren Burks, CB Isaiah Rodgers, G Mekhi Becton. QB Kenny Pickett (trade)

After winning the Super Bowl, the Eagles had to suffer the losses that come with it. Sweat and Williams signed contracts that led to them outpricing themselves out after solid play. Slay was cut in a salary saving move opening more time for the young depth at the position. Gardner-Johnson was traded for Green to provide depth at Guard, Green has starting experience and played well last season. Dillion coming off missing last season will help replace Gainwell as the change of pace/power back. The Eagles traded for DTR giving them a younger developmental QB with experience, giving Pickett a better chance to start. Jackson gives them CB depth and returner help with the losses of Bradberry and Rodgers. Uche is an experienced pass rusher who can help replace Sweat. The Eagles chose to keep Baun who developed nicely in their system as a leader and sideline to sideline playmaker. Burks filled in nicely when injuries hit making plays in the playoffs. Becton was a solid addition, but the addition of Green, helps replace him and they have good depth at the position.
