Ell’s 2026 NFL Draft Grades: NFC East

Giants – A- One high value starter, 1 possible starter, 1 steal, good value at positions of need

The Giants had Edge/LB Arvell Reese (Ohio State) fall in their lap with as a top 3 talent in the draft, despite a logjam at the position, but offensive players went off the board 1st. Reese is an athletic freak of nature with good size and production, but 1 year as a starter and improving pass rush. With the 10th pick received in the trade of DT Dexter Lawrence, the Giants selected T Francis Mauigoa (Miami) who is a tough, run blocking lineman with good size who could fill in at RG or be groomed at his natural RT position. In the 2nd round, CB Colton Hood (Tennessee) was a solid pickup as a mid-late 1st round talent who plays with good physicality, has good size and speed with #2 CB potential, if he can cleanup his technique. 3rd round WR Malachi Fields (Notre Dame) is a big possession WR with potential, but he lacks speed and needs to improve his route running. 6th round DT Bobby Jamison-Travis (Auburn) is a huge NT who will be asked to take on double teams and stop the run, but he needs to improve his technique and offers no pass rush. T J.C. Davis (Illinois) is an experienced LT with good size, strength, and run blocking, but he projects as a Guard and needs to improve his pass blocking. LB Jack Kelly (BYU) is an undersized LB with good strength, pursuit, and pass rush skills, he may get a change to develop on Special Teams.

Eagles – A- 1 steal, 1 sleeper, 1 good veteran trade, good prospects at positions of need

The Eagles continue to take advantage of the draft moving up to select WR Makai Lemon (USC) with the pending trade of veteran WR A.J. Brown. Lemon is a physical slot WR with inside/outside versatility and good speed as a deep threat making their games similar. In the 2nd round, TE Eli Stowers (Vanderbilt) was one of my sleepers as big pass catcher with good athleticism and starter potential impressing at NFL Combine. The Eagles traded a compensatory 3rd round pick for Edge Jonathan Greenard from the Vikings who should be a big difference maker. 3rd round T Markel Bell (Miami) is a huge 6’9 LT with good strength and run blocking, but he is still raw and needs to improve his pass blocking. 5th round QB Cole Payton (NDST) is a mobile dual threat QB with good size and production, but he needs to improve his technique. 6th round G Micah Morris (Georgia) is a huge lineman with elite strength and mobility, but he needs to improve his footwork and technique. 7th round pick S Cole Wisniewski (Texas Tech) is a big physical box Safety with Special Teams value, who lacks speed and needs to stay healthy. DT Uar Bernard (Nigeria) is the viral prospect with limited football background, but elite size and speed at 6’4 306 running a 4.63. Edge Keyshawn James-Newby (New Mexico) is a high motor undersized pass rusher who will need to earn a spot.

Cowboys – B+ 1 top level starter/steal, 1 sleeper, depth at positions of need

The Cowboys got the steal of the draft in the 1st round with top 3 talent S Caleb Downs (Ohio State) falling in their lap. Downs fell due to position, but he is a proven Safety with NFL genes playing at both Alabama and Ohio State coached by the best with great leadership, speed, and coverage as a movable piece and immediate starter. With their second 1st round pick from the Micah Parsons trade with GB, the team selected Edge Malachi Lawrence (UCF). Lawrence is a productive pass rusher with good size and experience; he should at least be a situational rusher early. 3rd round Edge Jaishawn Barham (Michigan) is a LB with good speed, athleticism, and improving pass rush, but he needs to improve against the run and add strength. 4th round T Drew Shelton (Penn State) is a LT with good size and run blocking ability, but he’s still raw. CB Devin Moore (Miami) is a physical CB with good size, speed, and coverage skills, but he needs to prove he can stay healthy and improve his awareness. 4th round DT/DE LT Overton (Alabama) is an undersized DT with good strength, mobility, and run stopping, but he lacks quickness and the size to be a DT; he fits as a 3-4 DE. 7th round WR Anthony Smith (ECU) is a lanky WR who will need to earn a spot.

Commanders – B- 1 top level starter/steal, questionable depth picks

The Commanders were able to select one of my favorite players in LB Sonny Styles (Ohio State) a converted Safety with good coverage, size, speed, and hitting power to be a three down LB inside or outside; he has elite potential. 3rd round WR Antonio Williams (Clemson) is a tough slot WR and playmaker who can run, pass, and return, but he needs to prove he can get separation and stay healthy. 5th round pick Edge Joshua Josephs (Tennessee) is an improving pass rusher with good size and a high motor, but he needs to improve against the run and add strength. 6th round RB Kaytron Allen (Penn State) is a strong power back with good size, but limited passing game ability and speed. C Matt Gulbin (Michigan State) is an undersized interior lineman with Guard versatility, but he fits as a backup Center. 7th round QB Athan Kaliakmanis (Rutgers) has a good size and a strong arm but will need to earn a spot.
