Ell’s 2026 NFL Free Agency Grades: AFC South

Colts: C+

Key Additions: QB Daniel Jones (re-signed), WR Alec Pierce (re-signed), Edge Arden Key, DT Jerry Tillery, DE/DT Derrick Nandi, LB Akeem Gaither-Davis, WR Laquon Treadwell (re-signed)

Key Losses: T Braden Smith, S Nick Cross, DE Kwity Paye, WR Michael Pittman (trade), LB Zaire Franklin (trade)

The Colts were able to keep the Jones and Pierce connection, but it cost a lot of money to keep the pair at what will likely be an overpay which led to the Pittman trade. Tillery and Nandi help provide depth along the D-line as run stoppers. Key is a veteran pass rush upgrade over Paye. Gaither-Davis takes over as a volume tackler for Franklin. Treadwell is a lanky pass catcher to provide depth especially without Pittman. Smith had a good rebound season at RT but has a replacement on the team. Cross was a playmaker in the secondary who will need to be replaced.

Jaguars: F

Key Additions: RB Chris Rodriguez, CB Montaric Brown (re-signed)

Key Losses: RB Travis Etienne, LB Devin Lloyd, CB Greg Newsome II

The Jags had two big losses in Etienne and Lloyd who were drafted by the team and developed nicely. Etienne was the key to the offense as a three down back/workhorse showing good receiving ability while also being a long-time friend and teammate of franchise QB Trevor Lawrence. Lloyd was a three down LB with good coverage skills and all-around playmaking ability, both will be missed. Rodriguez is a power back who will help replace Etienne as a veteran option. Brown is a young developing starting CB. With Travis Hunter moving to CB, Newsome is not needed as a lanky starting level corner.

Titans: C+

Key Additions: WR Wan’Dale Robinson, Jermaine Johnson II (trade), CB Alontae Taylor, DE/DT John Franklin-Myers, QB Mitchell Trubisky, DE/DT Solomon Thomas (trade), CB Cor’Dale Flott

Key Losses: T’Vondre Sweat (Trade), G Kevin Zeitler, TE Chig Okonkwo, Edge Arden Key, S Xavier Woods, C Lloyd Cushenberry

The Titans biggest moves were in the coaching staff (not in grade) which led to the signing of a few Giants players, most importantly, Robinson who gives the team a solid 1B WR and playmaker in space to help QB Cam Ward. Johnson gives them a solid pass rusher injuries/health pending to replace Key, although it cost them a young run stopper in Sweat. Taylor and Flott give them a pair of young lanky physical corners with potential. Franklin-Myers is a familiar face for new HC Robert Saleh as a good pass rusher who can hold his own against the run and similar with Thomas another familiar face for Saleh, but more run stopper. Zeitler is a veteran lineman who continues to play well and will be missed. Trubisky gives the team a veteran #2 QB.

Texans: C

Key Additions: RB David Montgomery (trade), DT Sheldon Rankins (re-signed), DE Logan Hall, G Wyatt Teller, T Braden Smith, T Trent Brown (re-signed), S Reed Blankenship

Key Losses: RB Joe Mixon, WR Christian Kirk, T Tytus Howard (trade), C/G Juice Scruggs (trade), DT Demico Autry, DT Tim Settle, RB Nick Chubb

The Texans added Montgomery via trade to be the power back and possible lead back, but in tandem with young RB Woody Marks to replace Mixon and Chubb. Teller and Smith should start at Guard and RT as the Texans continue to try to rebuild the O-line replacing Howard and Scruggs. Brown provides good veteran depth as a swing Tackle. Hall will help replace Autry as a run stopper, although a NT might be needed to replace Settle which I think they will aim for in the draft. Rankins is a tough veteran interior pass rusher. Blakenship is a coverage safety who will start at FS.
