Broncos
Offense: RB R.J. Harvey, UCF
Defense: CB Jahdae Barron, Texas
The Broncos continue to build with players that fit Sean Payton’s scheme and I believe Harvey is perfect for the Alvin Kamara role. Harvey is an undersized athletic RB with good receiving skills who was recruited as a QB. He may start off in tandem with veteran J.K. Dobbins, but he should take over the job.
The Broncos already have a top secondary led by DPOY Patrick Surtain II, but the Jim Thorpe Award winner Barron brings inside and outside versatility. Barron is a solid playmaker with good athleticism and physicality giving them the ability to interchange Riley Moss and a solid nickel CB.
Chiefs
Offense: T Josh Simmons, Ohio State
Defense: LB Jeffrey Bassa, Oregon
The Chiefs O-line has been searching for a long-term LT and may have found one in Simmons. He was clearly one of the best Tackles in the draft talent wise, but there were questions around his injury (mostly) and maturity. Simmons has quieted both and seems ready to be the starting LT Day 1.
Bassa has proven to be a solid tackler and instinctive player. He lacks ideal height, but he is a strong run stopping LB with good leadership and the ability to play good coverage for 3-down potential/starter potential at OLB.
Chargers
Offense: RB Omarion Hampton, UNC
Defense: DT Jamaree Caldwell, Oregon
The Chargers have turned over the RB room and HC Jim Harbaugh is known for running the football. Najee Harris comes in as the veteran but has suffered an offseason eye injury. Hampton is a tough runner with good size and 3-down potential. He should be in the mix early and eventually take the job.
Caldwell is a strong, high motor DT with the ability to stop the run and provide pass rush up the middle. With the NT position the only one intact on the D-line, he has an opportunity to work his way into a starting role.
Raiders
Offense: RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State
Defense: CB Darien Porter, Iowa State
The Raiders invested a high pick in Jeanty helping the value of the RB and showing how highly they think of him. Jeanty is an undersized stocky RB who is tough to take down with dual threat ability as a 3-down back. Jeanty should get the ball early and often in HC Pete Carroll’s offense.
Porter is a fast lanky CB at 6’3 that fits the Richard Sherman mold that Pete Carroll looks for. Porter is another converted former WR with the size and athleticism to be an outside CB and with the need at the position he should start early; luckily, he is in a good system.
