Ell’s 2026 NFL Draft Grades: AFC West

Chiefs – A- 1 starter, 1 possible starter, 1 sleeper, picks at need positions

The Chiefs started the draft trading up for CB Mansoor Delane (LSU) a lanky, experienced CB with #1 CB potential with his size and coverage skills, which made sense as the Commanders and Saints had secondary needs. With their second 1st round pick from the Rams for CB Trent McDuffie, they drafted DT Peter Woods (Clemson). Woods is a pass rushing DT who was viewed as a top 10 pick before his down year, but he has good strength and a high motor to make plays behind the line. 2nd Round Edge/OLB R Mason Thomas (Oklahoma) is an undersized pass rusher viewed as a high-level sleeper who plays with good speed, pursuit, and production, but he needs to add weight and prove he can stay healthy. 4th round CB Jadon Canady (Oregon) is an undersized slot CB with good speed, coverage, and versatility as a movable piece, but he needs to add strength and improve against the run. 5th round RB Emmett Johnson (Nebraska) is a dual threat back and tough runner who lacks top speed and is not big enough to be a power back but could provide depth. WR Cyrus Allen (Cincinnati) is an undersized playmaker in space and deep threat who needs to add strength. 7th round QB Garrett Nussmeier (LSU) was originally viewed as a top pick before an injury prone season, as an undersized QB who can make all the throws, but needs to cut down the turnovers and improve awareness.

Broncos – B+ 1 smart veteran trade, 1 possible starter, 2 possible sleepers, need picks

The Broncos traded their 1st round pick to the Dolphins for WR Jaylen Waddle which was a smart move giving them a true deep ball WR and veteran presence with #1 WR potential to help Courtland Sutton. The Broncos traded down in the 2nd round starting in the 3rd round with DT/DE Tyler Onyedim (Texas A&M) an experienced D-lineman with good size, a high motor, and pass rush potential, but he needs to clean up his technique. 4th round RB Jonah Coleman is a short, stocky RB with good leadership, three-down potential, and good playmaking in space, even in the return game. T/G Kage Casey (Boise State) is an experienced LT with good strength, technique, and run blocking, but short arms might move him inside. 5th round TE Justin Joly (N.C. State) is an undersized pass catching TE viewed as a possible sleeper who needs to improve his blocking and consistency. 7th round S Miles Scott (Illinois) is a converted WR and playmaker who lacks speed and is still raw. TE Dallen Bentley (Utah) is a blocking TE coming off 1 big year of receiving production. LB Red Murdock (Buffalo) is a hard-hitting run stopper with good production who lacks speed and coverage skills.

Raiders – A- Possible franchise QB, possibly 2 or more sleepers, picks at need positions

The Raiders started the draft with the obvious 1st overall pick in QB Fernando Mendoza (Indiana) who has the size, leadership, and mobility to be a franchise QB, as a clean prospect who can make all the throws with two-school experience coming off a National Championship. 2nd round S/CB Treydan Stukes (Arizona) is a coverage DB with good speed, instincts, and versatility as a movable piece, but he needs to clean up his technique. 3rd round pick Edge/OLB Keyron Crawford (Auburn) is an improving pass rusher with good strength, physicality, and athleticism, but he is still raw with potential. G Trey Zuhn III (Texas A&M) is an experienced LT who lacks length, so he is viewed as a Guard with potential if he can clean up his technique. 4th round CB Jermod McCoy (Tennessee) was viewed as a 1st round pick despite missing a year, but despite a good Pro Day he still fell, but he’s an athletic playmaker. RB Mike Washington Jr. (Arkansas) is a big RB with three down potential and good speed, but he needs to run with power more consistently and improve his pass blocking. 5th round S Dalton Johnson (Arizona) is a physical, undersized movable piece with good speed, tackling, and a nose for the football, but he needs to add strength and improve his deep coverage. CB Hezekiah Masses (California) is a lanky player with good speed, coverage, and a nose for the ball, but he needs to add weight/strength and improve his tackling. 6th round WR Malik Benson is a lanky speed WR with a track background and good hands, but he needs to improve his route-running and technique. 7th round DT Brandon Cleveland (N.C. State) has good size and strength and is viewed as possible run stopper.

Chargers – C+ Good player in 1st but may be a bad fit, needs picks mostly at O-line with potential

The Chargers selected Edge/DE Akheem Mesidor (Miami) in the 1st round who is a strong, experienced, athletic pass rusher with good production who you can argue if it was the highly touted Bain or Mesidor who was the real star; however, he is almost 25 years old and has an injury history. 2nd Round C/G Jake Slaughter (Florida) is an athletic lineman with good pass blocking and mobility, but he needs to add strength and improve his technique. 4th Round WR Brenen Thompson (Miss St.) is an undersized deep threat with 4.26 speed, who lacks size to play every down and has durability concerns. T Travis Burke (Memphis) is a huge, strong run blocking lineman with experience at both Tackle spots, but he needs to improve his pass blocking and lacks mobility. S Genesis Smith (Arizona) is a big, coverage Safety with good awareness and Special Teams experience, but he needs to improve against the run and his tackling consistency. 5th round DT Nick Barnett (South Carolina) is a run stopper with good size to be a NT and Special Teams experience, but he lacks pass rushing ability. 6th round T/G Logan Taylor (Boston College) is an experienced lineman with good size and versatility to play multiple spots, but he needs to add strength and improve his technique. T/G Alex Harkey (Oregon) is a RT with good pass blocking and mobility, but he needs to add strength and may move inside due to short arms.
